car rental Tenerife is the easiest option for discovering the Island.

As a relatively small Island with good roads, it is quite easy to get around, car rental Tenerife is well recommended though.

As a tourist, you are well catered for with lots of airport car hire franchises upon arrival, but car hire is only one form of transport on the Island.

One of the benefits of being part of Spain is its infrastructure, The transport system is very good, and with that comes choice.

One such choice as an alternative to car hire is the bus service. T.I.T.S.A run the bus services throughout Tenerife to all locations.

The buses are modern and clean and carry over 15million passengers a year. However you do need to be mindful of the pros and cons of the public transport over say car rental Tenerife.

Using the bus service is definitely cheaper, but on the other-hand some of the routes can be off the beaten track, which is OK if you have plenty of time and you know the timetables.

Mid-sized car, ideal for a family

For example, I recall on one occasion I thought, no, don't use car hire, as the-tenerife-tourist you should mix with the locals and be a real tourist, use public transport I thought!

I was going to the morning market at Torviscas, so I got the 8 a.m. bus from Callao Salavje.

The bus must have stopped at virtually every house en route, in fact at one point I thought the driver was having engine trouble he was stopping that frequently!

Eventually, we got to our destination at 9.15 am, if I had used my car rental it would have taken me all of 15 mins.

Other transport choices available other than buses and car rental are Taxis.

The vast majority in my experience are clean, not too expensive and most can speak English, to be honest though, I regard them as a little bit of a luxury, I tend to use them only on a evening to get to and from a restaurant for example.

It's a personal choice of course, and I always choose car rental Tenerife. There is truly so much to see, car rental is well worth it, especially if you're looking to get away from the pool now and again, it just gives you the freedom to explore if you want to.

If you plan on using car rental Tenerife, here are a few tips you might take into consideration:

  • Always try to go for an air conditioned rental, it can get especially hot and without air conditioning makes driving a very unpleasant experience.
  • Fuel is relatively cheap in comparison to say the UK, but there's no harm in getting a hire car that does more miles to the gallon. So consider a diesel car rental.
  • If your not used to driving on the right side of the road, maybe consider an automatic rental, they're a little more expensive, but makes life easier. Though you do get used to continental driving fairly quickly.
  • Make sure you take your driving licence and that of anyone else you want to be registered as a driver with the car hire company.
  • Always book before you go, If you turn up at the airport car hire desk without pre-booking, they may have few cars available, and cheap car hire in tenerife is sometimes elusive.
