Like a lot of Spanish holiday destinations, Tenerife resorts can boast some of the best facilities in Europe.
As I hope to have illustrated within this site, Tenerife is so much more than just great weather and a holiday in the sun.
However, the practicalities of being a visitor while in Tenerife requires you to have some where to base yourself during your stay, normally near to one of the popular Tenerife resorts
Like most holiday destinations Tenerife has good and bad, but as the main economy revolves so much around tourism in the Canary islands, the vast majority of Tenerife resorts are very good with excellent facilities.
World class - Tenerife resorts
The tourist trade is also very well established with the tradition dating back to the mid-19th century.
It's fair to say that most visitors stay is the sun-baked south, which has suffered from some ill judged developments with untold damage to the environment and natural habitat.
Although Europe's most popular winter sun destination may have its critics the island has done a lot recently to change its perceptions; It's not all concrete and cranes.
Indeed after the Moratoria act passed by the Canarian Parliament in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it declared that no more hotels should be built on the island unless they are classified as 5 star-quality.
The hotels should also provide different services such as Golf Courses or Congress facilities.
This act was passed with the goal of improving the standard of tourism service and promoting environmentally conscious development.
Probably the most famous or indeed infamous resort is of course Playa de las Americas, for a while it was a notorious destination for the "lads" 2 week break in the sun, and the bastion of "No Spanish Food served here", it has very much calmed down from those heady days of the 80's. Nowadays it is trying hard to develop its reputations as it caters for a different level of clientele.
Tenerife Resorts have some of Europe's best beaches
Spreading out from Las Americas are numerous resorts which now merge into one, Los Cristianos ever so slightly south was the only existing coastal town before the advent of mass-tourism.
To the North there is Torviscas and La Caleta which together with a string of other small resorts make up Costa Adeje, and is establishing itself as a beacon for well designed resorts, learning from the mistakes made during earlier developments.
To the North you have Puerto de la Cruz, which is the original destination for holiday makers before the development of the southern coast.
The West is where you will find Los Gigantes home of "The Giant" black cliffs which so dramatically shoot skywards out of the blue sea.
